We have birdlings!

As I was watering my hanging basket one night, I got the living bejesus scared out of me when this screeching animal came flying out of the top. The next morning I noticed that a mourning dove (we think that's what it is) had nested in our basket. We found two eggs in it and this week they hatched into little birdlings (that's what I'm going to call them).

They're a bit freaky looking but it's been cool to see nature in action. Hopefully they'll leave the nest soon so I can finally throw out my pathetic looking hanging pot that has looked half dead for the past two months :)

I'm hoping to get a better photo this weekend since by the time I get home in the evening the sun shines directly in the direction of the basket.

Note to self.....no more hanging baskets out the front.

Trying some freestyle design

I tried a free style layered layout for the first time and here's the result. I'm not 100% sure I pulled it off but I had fun playing with the owls and the bubble lace motif that I made on my QK Silhouette. Thanks for stopping by!!

Some boxes and Infuse

Here's the last of my projects for Scrapalicious this month.

The layout was done using the Basic Grey Infuse line. This paper is so easy to work with---it has so many great patterns that are easy to cut out to give dimension.

I use the QK Silhouette downloads to get this little treat box. These would be perfect for party favours. I did a Christmas one and a thank you one.

It's never too early to think Christmas....

I created a couple of Christmas items using the downloads from the QK Silhouette web site. Sorry the picture quality isn't that great but I used my scanner until I get a chance to take a photo in natural light.

The first item is an altered CD which can be hung up or used as a card (I added some journalling lines to the back). The bird is a downloaded shape from QK. MM letter stickers, QK Blitzen rub ons, poinsettia, rhinestones and button added.

The second card uses a miniature version of the the same bird file as well as a matching birdhouse. I used a Sassafras lass branch stamp, some QK rubons, MM tag and brad and some white dimensional paint on the roof of the bird house. The scalloped edge is a QK die.

I'm loving this bird download.

So it's been a while....but an elephant never forgets :)

I was working on my final DT assignment for Scrapalicious today. I was given a QK Silhouette download card and got to chose from a number of really cute shapes.

For my first project, I did this elephant card. The elephant was downloaded from the QK web site. The papers are from the Basic Grey baby line. The sentiment stamp is Fiskars and I made a sort of ribbon flower around the outside. I added some Stickles to the outside of the sentiment.

The challenge of this card (and let me tell you it took longer than some of my layouts!!) was figuring out how to get it to stand up and make the elephant stable. So I mounted the beast to a 4 x 4ish card and voila!! I think this turned out so cute and there will be more elephants in my future.

As for where I've been for the last month or so nothing too exciting.......let's see I was in New Jersey on a business trip for a week in mid-July. Pretty hectic trip and I only got to pop in to AC Moore a few times so no good shopping this time.

DH and I spend a few weekends at friend's places for some bbq get togethers and met my mom for lunch a few times on my Friday off. My mom finished her last chemo treatment last week so I'm looking forward for things to get back to normal for her.

I've also been spending a fair amount of time on crackbook.....I mean facebook......I've been lucky enough to talk to a number of people who've I've lost track of over the years.

Finally of course there's tennis. DH and I played in the club mixed double's championship in mid July as well. We made it to the semi-finals of the consolation round but I had to retire due to sun/heat stroke. We had played FOUR matched in one day in the blazing sun. I'm pretty sure we could have won the match but then we would have had to play ANOTHER match (for a total of 5) and I don't think it would have been good. Oh well, there's always next year.

So that's my update.....thanks for stopping by and in the fall I promise to keep things up to date a bit better :)
