WOW! Wednesday. Yep it's another layout!

Hello!  Today I have a layout to share with you.  It's really nice to get back into scrapping again and I'm looking forward to catching up with the past 2 years of my daughter's photos. Only a few more hundred thousand layouts to go LOL!!

For my layout I created the background using a piece of kraft cardstock, a plastic 12 x 12 stencil, all of the colours from the WOW! Embossing Candy Counter collection and some white spray ink.  I used some white baking doilies as accents and embellished with some stamped butterflies and Prima flowers.

Since my photos were full of bright colours, I decided to create a rainbow background with my embossing powders.  I used the hexagon stencil and applied some Versamark ink to get my pattern onto the cardstock.  Then I applied all of my embossing powder colours one at a time.  After all of the embossing was complete I sprayed the paper with some Mr. Huey white spray ink so that some of the white of the doilies was pulled into the background.

Here is a close up of the top of the layout.  I simply attached a half a doily and then created a little cluster of embellishments.  As you can see I added some colour to my stamped images using some Stickles and Copic markers.

This close up shows the nice shine that the embossing powder adds to the base of the layout.

 

I used some felt Thickers to add even more texture and my beloved mini alphabet stickers.  I think I have hoarded enough of these to last for several years LOL!

Today I'm sharing a clean and simple card that I made for one of the My Favorite Things weekly Wednesday sketches (#55) over on Splitcoaststampers.

I pulled out some of my newer October Afternoon papers and chose to go with a teal, beige and grey colour palette.  I added some grey pearls (tinted with my Copic Markers) to the center of each of the beige felt rolled roses and added twill ribbon and a bow to embellish the card.

A WOW! wedding congratulations

Hi!  Today I'm sharing an elegant congratulations card I created using some heat embossing and some dry embossing.  I envisioned this being a wedding congratulations so, when designing my card, I used lots of pearls and elegant looking embellishments.

I took some vintage looking papers and heat embossed the postage edge image with WOW! Earthtone Pepper powder.  Then I embossed a Maya Road chipboard cameo with WOW! Bubblegum and Earthtone Pepper powders.  The card base was embossed with a demask Cuttlebug embossing folder.

And here's a close up of the embossed cameo chipboard.  As you can see after embossing the oval with pink WOW! I inked the edges and stamped on it with Staz On ink with the script stamp from the Call Me set.  I also added a few pearls to accent the silhouette image.  A few pearl pins, some fancy trim and a few flowers and voila.....one elegant congratulations card.

Riding by to say hi and a YNS Fun Friday tip

Hello and happy Friday!!  As this post goes live today we're supposed to be getting the snow storm of the winter in Ontario so I thought it would be great to share a nice cheery spring card.  I coloured Fhiona Riding a Bike from Your Next Stamp using some nice bright shades of purple and pink and matched her up with some papers from Jillibean Soup.

As you can see I added a nice trail of bling behind her to give the feeling of movement to my card.  The bling swirl was actually a left over piece that I had trimmed to use on a different item.

Which brings me to my tip of the day:  Keep a small dish or container on your desk for all your little bits and pieces of embellishments.  I had to cut this small piece off of one of my bling swirls to make it work with the other project and I was left with two small curls.  I dug through my rummage bin on my desk and thought they would be perfect with my card.

As a related tip:  Don't be afraid to cut apart your embellishments or items to use as you need them.  A half a doily or a strip off some bling swirls might be just perfect for your project and you can use up the rest of it at a later time.

An egg-citing start to the week

Bellarific Friday with my Uptown Girl Claudia

Hello!  Here's a card I created a few weeks ago for Bellarific Friday.  I used my favourite Uptown Girl stamp and some papers from Echo Park.  What I like the best about this stamp is that you can use it for a number of occasions depending on how you colour and embellish her.  I added a little "make a wish" sentiment to her lollipop to make a birthday card.

I added lots of texture to my card using an embossing folder and I added some pearl accents around the outside of the frame with my new love----Viva Decor pearl paint pens :)

Well, I did it!  I finished all 15 of the CPS Anniversary sketches!  Thank you CPS for two weeks of inspired creativity and now my card stash has been replenished!  So here are the last two cards for the challenges.

This first card was based on the sketch from Day 13.  I had a bit of fun with this one and created my old little apple feltie using stamps from Paper Smooches.  I stamped the apple image with Palette Noir ink onto some regular craft felt (e.g. the cheap stuff LOL!), cut out and pieced together.  I kept with an apple theme on the card and used a Lifestyle Crafts/Quickutz embossing folder for the background and some school themed papers from October Afternoon.  One day, hopefully soon, I'll learn how to sew in straight lines LOL!

This second card was created using the sketch from Day 4. I flipped the sketch upside down and shifted one of the elements a bit so that my shamrock embellishment didn't hide the Noteblock image.  I kept the colours simple (kraft and green) and added a pre-made shamrock embellishment and some green twine to the card.

Make a wish.....

Happy Valentine's Day!  I'm totally tapped out on love cards to share today but I do still have a few creations that were made with love hee hee.

I was recently ohhh'ing and ahhhh'ing over my Mom's new Cricut cartridge so she cut out a whole bunch of black silhouette images for me to use (from the A Child's Year cartridge)---thanks Mom!.  For this card I used the fairy image and made it into a birthday card. 

The card layout is based on the CPS Anniversary sketch for Day 15, but instead of the square panel I substituted with the round doily.  I originally tried using just the pink paper on it's own but it needed a little something to pull in the dark colour from the die cut, so I stamped the background paper with the vintage music backgrounder from Purple Onion Designs in black ink and then matted onto some black and white polka dot paper to pull the whole design together.

So I'm going to warn you up front, the two cards in this post totally clash but I wanted to show you the new Jane's Doodle stamps that I received in the mail this week and to check two more of the CPS Anniversary sketches off my list of posts (only a few more to go!) :)

My first card is for CPS Anniversary sketch Day #9.  I used some papers from Recollections and My Mind's Eye for this paper pieced creation.  How cute is that little snail?

I'm in the home stretch to completing all 15 of the Card Position Systems anniversary celebration sketches---so bear with me for a few more posts LOL!.  It has been a fun and productive couple of weeks and I totally enjoy using their sketches as a jumping off point.  So on to today's card....

Jack and Suzy would like to say happy birthday.  These are two of the seasonal "kid" images that Stephanie Ackerman created for Purple Onion Designs.  I used the autumn kids and just cut them out (the original images have them standing in some pumpkins).  It's a great way to get more use out of your stamps!  If you look closely you'll see that I added a piece of die cut denim (scallops) across the image panel to match the kid's denim outfits.

I miss you and a jar full of thanks

Good morning and welcome to the start of a new week!  Today I have a few more cards I created from my scrap bin and my December 2011 Unity Stamp Co. Kit of the Month (KOTM).  The layout of both cards were based on two more of the CPS Anniversary sketches (Day 11 and Day 12).

For this first card I made my own sentiment by selectively inking parts of one of the stamps from the kit.  I lined it up using an acrylic block with grids and used the bottom of the panel as my guide.  The original sentiment said "I miss seeing you." but as you can see I edited out the seeing part for my card.  The papers are all from October Afternoon---I love the grey and blue tones of that collection.  I flipped the inspiration sketch for this card.

Ippity "LOVE" challenge and a CPS sketch

Today I'm showing you a card I created for last week's Ippity (by Unity Stamps) release party challenge---there are some super cute new stamps released that I'd love to get my hands on.  The challenge was to create a "L.O.V.E" card; with each letter standing for something on your card.

So here's my take:  L for is for lavendar (my colour palette), O for is for oblong rectangle/one bow, V is for vintage (the style of my card), and E is for embossing (I used an embossing folder on the bottom part of the card.

The design of my card was using CPS Anniversary sketch Day 7.

One more set of quick and easy Valentine's Day cards

Hello!  Here's the last of my quick and easy Valentine's Day cards that I whipped up last weekend.  For this set I also kept the design simple and also used up some really old papers from my basket full of slabs (circa 2000!).

For these cards I stamped this super cute bumble bee image from Purple Onion designs, coloured, cut out and matted onto a scalloped circle.  I stamped some patterns onto the large die cut heart in pink ink and printed out the sentiments using a fun font (SNF Goody) .  Finally I added a baker's twine bow. 

I hope these cards give you some inspiration in case you need some last minute Valentines.

Nutty for you

I'm on a role today in the creative department LOL!  Here's another card I created for this week's Paper Smooches Sparks Challenge.  To see the inspiration photo check out the PS Sparks blog.

I had so much fun playing around for this card.  I wanted to try stamping and colouring on some canvas fabric (to mimic the look in the inspiration photo) with my Copics and boy, I LOVE how it turned out!  I stamped the image in Palette Noir black ink and then lightly coloured with my Copics.  I was surprised at how easy it was to use Copics with little to no bleeding.  I even was able to add a bit of shadowing at the bottom of the image and by adding a darker shade to parts of the image.

I die cut the image into an oval shape and sewed it onto a brown felt scalloped die cut using some embroidery floss.  I added a twine bow and just adhered it to a piece of wood grain paper.

A SPARKS Valentine and a sketch

This week's Paper Smooches sparks challenge put me in the Valentine's Day mood and I pulled out one of my very first sets of Paper Smooches stamps and some scraps on my desk to create this card.  I was inspired by the large heart in the inspiration photo (see PS blog for photo).

For the card layout I used one of the CPS anniversary sketches (Day 8).

Some quick and easy Valentine's on YNS Fun Friday

Hello and Happy Friday!  Today I'm sharing some quick and easy Valentine's cards that I created for my daughter's party at preschool.  The full instructions with measurements can be found at the bottom of the post in case you would like to whip up some yourself.

Tip:  Making your own cards is a great way to use up some of your older items.  For these cards I used some papers from a slab that I bought when I first started scrapbooking way back in the early 2000s (yes, it's time to purge LOL!!).  You could also use up your scraps and create a bunch of different cards with the same overall design.

Tip:  The key to mass producing cards is keeping them simple and do them assembly line style.  To add more interest to my card I added some embossing which is quick to do, but adds a lot more than just using the plain paper (because I was using thin paper I was able to emboss FOUR sheets at a time !)

One other thing I had to keep in mind when I made these was the age group.  I didn't want to add too many embellishments or anything that a young child peel off and choke on (e.g. no buttons!)

Instructions:
1.  Stamp cupcake image onto white cardstock, colour with Copics and cut into circle (I used a circle punch).  Mat onto red scalloped circle.
2.  Cut piece of white cardstock to 4 1/2" x 3 1/2".
3.  Cut piece of pink paper 4 1/4" x 3 1/4", emboss with heart themed embossing folder and mat onto white cardstock.
4.  Cut 1" x 3 1/2" strip of floral paper and adhere across card.
5.  Print (or stamp) sentiment onto white cardstock and cut out.
6.  Adhere sentiment banner and stamped image to card.  Embellish with ribbon bow and glitter glue.

Hello!  I think I've set some kind of posting record with the number of projects I've shared this week.  It feels really good to have so many projects to share and to replenish my card stash!

Today's card is another for the Card Positioning Systems anniversary celebration (Day 6).  This was actually my second attempt at using the sketch....the first one found it's way to my recycle bin because I just couldn't get it to work.  For this attempt I pulled some really old Autumn Leaves papers that I was hoarding for my wedding album and created this vintage inspired card using a stamp and die set from My Favorite Things. I just love how you can customize the "paper" coming out of the top of the typewriter.  For once I stayed really true to the sketch and I'll definitely be using this layout again.

Today I'd like to introduce you to Kichiro and Miyuki from Japan -  two of the new World Kid collection stamps.  I always get nervous when I work with ethnic stamps as I want to make sure that I accurately represent the culture.  I did a search of Japanese kimonos on line and was in awe at all the beautiful colours that the Japanese wear.  I decided to choose purple and I coloured both of the images in different purple tones.  The papers are from one of the older Basic Grey collections (Kioshi).  To add some texture to my cards I added some Viva Decor pearl paint to the female image and an embossed panel to the male card.  I looked up some common Japanese phrases and printed out the sentiments on my computer before cutting them out into little banners.   Both card layouts were based on sketches from Card Position Systems (CPS).

Next up on today's menu....a clean and simple card using some yummy stamps from Paper Smooches. 

The images were watercoloured with some watercolour pencils, cut out and adhered to some plain white cardstock that I embossed with a Cuttlebug folder.  Minus the watercolouring and cutting out of the images, the card was done in 3 minutes or less---yeah!

The design for this card was based on CPS Anniversary sketch day 3 (CPS sketch #54).  I did take a bit of creative liscence because I just couldn't find a scalloped card base big enough for my image and I just wasn't feeling the tilted panel.  Overall the one large panel and position of the sentiment of the sketch is what inspired me.

A tag on Tuesday

I'm back today to share another one of my creations for One Crazy Stamper.  Just a reminder that they have a love challenge going on all month --- play along for your chance to win a great prize (some Krafting Kimmie stamps) from OCS.

I created a vintage tag using this fabulous image from Stampavie.  After colouring my image I realized that the blue colour was pretty difficult to match to my papers and embellishment so I just coloured some scalloped edges and a paper rose with the same colour I used for the image. 

Today's Tip:  Using your Copics is a great way to customize your embellishments/papers to match your project.  I've used my Copics to create coloured pearls that match my project, change the colour of buttons, tint flowers etc.

Good morning and welcome to the start of a new week.  This weekend I had a chance to start playing along with the Card Position Systems (CPS) anniversary celebration and this is the card I created for the day 2 sketch (CPS #166).

I inked up another one of my Stephanie Ackerman village themed stamps from Purple Onion Designs.  I just *LOVE* these stamps.  Each stamp comes with a coordinating set of sentiments but they can all be interchangeably used with other stamps in the collection.  In keeping with the flower theme of the image, I used some papers from Echo Park and a floral embossing folder from Crafts Too.

All you need is love...

Well, it’s that time of the month again...time for some new Your Next Stamp releases!  Today I’m giving you a little peek at one of the new stamps/stamp and die sets.

My inspiration for this card originated from the new “World Love” globe stamp (available Feb 8).  It got me thinking along the lines of a travel themed card which could be used as a good bye/good luck card, a Valentine card or even just a note card.  I used the postcard and stamp images from the new stamp die set (the coordinating dies make cutting out the images so quick and easy) with the globe image and created my collage onto a postage edged piece of paper. I added part of one of the images from the stamp/die set to the center of my ribbon bow.

It's time for the February Sketch for You to Try.  Your Next Stamp is this month's sponsor so Jen asked us if we'd like to play along for the sketch reveal and how could I say no?

For my version of the sketch I flipped it on its side and used one of my favorite YNS stamps (Star Cuties), some Lily Bee papers and some ruffle trim.  I used a clear SRM sticker for my sentiment and adhered it over top of my ribbon to make it look like it's printed on the ribbon itself.  The image was coloured with my Copics and I used my white gel pen to add some white accents.

Unity Stamps FWF Friday

Good morning!  For today's card I'm sharing an elegant and monochrome design I created using an older Unity Stamp Co. Kit of the Month (December 2009) and lot of Viva decor pearl paint.

I took an embossing folder and added a drop of pearl paint to the center of each design.  The Viva pens are totally amazing and they look exactly like the half pearls when dried --- and you don't get that pointy top like with other similar products.  The image panel was created by stamping the script stamp in light blue ink onto the panel and then I stamped the flower image on top.  I added more pearl paint to the flower centers.

Sending you Snow Kisses....with One Crazy Stamper

Hello!  I can't believe it's February 1st already....where does the time go??? 

This month I'm thrilled to be the Guest Designer for one of my local stamping stores --- One Crazy Stamper (OCS).  OCS was an online retailer until last summer when Lora opened a bricks and mortar store in Bolton Ontario (and she continues to operate the online store too of course).  They have an awesome selection of products, great customer service and a price match guarantee.  Definitely one of my favourite places to shop locally!
